If the crack is into the snail, the housing is basically junk. Before sending it to the coater, you need to take some sand paper and hand sand the inside of the housing's lip. Test fit back on the center section for a friction free fit. When you send it off to the coater, it should fit just...

I think 92turbo4life has the 1992 chrome rims. They appear like mk4 NA rims correct? Also, the aluminum can be pollished. If you want to get messy, try some of these to cut the aluminum so you can go to a pollishing compound... -Baking soda and water paste. Be careful it cuts very fast...
