I second the notion to just buy a new set, worth the price. Mine we fine when I took them off, but I replaced both the gaskets and the rubber backed washers for them as well, as the washer rubber forms into the hole in the gasket. Worth it not to have to take it off and do it again.

Like Nick said.... mine has the plastic tube that is below the plug, so you unscrew it almost to the end, and then the fluid drains via the tube... never had any problems, but it does take a while.... go find the tube that is supposed to be there.

you don't want to go much higher than that, if any. And I wouldn't spend too much time up that high either. My EGT's can get that hot as well, but as soon as it gets around 1500-ish,. maybe a bit higher, I usually shut her down. I'm measuring at the collector with a single tap.
