'87-'88 and some early '89 models have the square mounts. Mid '89 to '92 switched to the round mounts. You should use the mounts that came with your model chassis.
The cross hatch is normal, unless you are burning oil...based on your compression numbers your rings are sealing fine. You can clean the piston tops with Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner.
Are you planning to replace the HG with a stock composite or a MHG?
In either case, get some ARP...
Yep...the jumper I use just removes the resistor and provides a constant 12V through the stock circuit. It will not remain this way...a rewire with a new relay is in the plan ;)

I have not used Probe pistons, so I can't speak to the pros/cons...I do know JE and CP have/are being used in some very high HP builds.
The quality is without question.

For the start problem...make sure the AFM is hooked up correctly and all the turbo/IC/3000 pipe/TB hoses are secure (no cracks).
Check to see if your AC button is depressed...it will always throw a code 51 if it is, even if the rest of the AC is removed.
