    egr cooler call

The downside of pulling the motor is inducing a problem...forget to hook something up, old brittle harness, break connectors, etc. You will also need all new fluids (not necessarily a bad thing). The advantage is you can replace anything else that needs it pretty easy. The EGR cooler is a...

    egr cooler call

A lift is not going to help much, unless you pull the motor. You can lay a pad across the top of the engine (an old matress works) so you can lay down and save your back.

    Main Bearing Question

The good news is there is nothing rotating on that surface. Just take a fine Scott's bright pad and make sure there are no ridges along that scratch. I assume you will have the crank straightened, balanced and the journals sized/micro polished. Depending on how much material is removed from...

    mk3's and rain

First of all, I was talking in the context of when a tire hydroplanes...not the overall suspension dynamic that will make a car lose traction on a wet road. Second, you are wrong...tire pressure has everything to do do when a tire hydroplanes and weight doesn't mean squat. Care to explain...

Woodpecker sound only under boost after replacing the Heater Core

Like I said...the ones I know about. The stepper motor type is not common as a boost controller, but it is more accurate...that's why a stepper is used in the ISCV. In this case, the OP has already stated he has the solenoid type.

    mk3's and rain

LOL...you're right, it is in knots ;) Actually, aircraft tires are not exactly "slicks"...they have grooves that also channel water. Standing water is not an accurate term...of course you have to have water on top of a hard (in this case) concrete surface. The tests were done with 0.10"...

    Will timing affect horse power?

Yes it is...or a retard in the case of corrective values (especially over temp or knock). The basic table is for advance.

    Will timing affect horse power?

"Ignition timing" is defined as: Initial Ignition Timing + Basic Ignition Advance Angle + Corrective Ignition Advance/Retard Angle Initial Ignition Timing = Setting valve timing & set CPS to 10 deg BTDC Basic Ignition Timing = A table in memory the ECU selects from based on: - Intake Air...

    Worth Saving - BHG Sludge

Have you drained the oil yet? That's the million dollar question though that you really have to answer for yourself. The real downside is the time you would have to invest finishing the BHG job...I assume you have already bought the parts to do it. The only other expense is the...

    Will timing affect horse power?

I'm not convinced the guy's got the CPS, damper & gears lined up to begin with.

Your other choice is to pull the pan and change the bearings ;)

    Will timing affect horse power?

I assume you are checking timing with T and E1 jumped on the diagnostic block?

    mk3's and rain

Like I said, standing water, road condition (grooved or not) and tread condition do play a role. Tire pressure is the primary thing the operator (you and me) can control, assuming the tires are good. The basic formula was derived from NASA aircraft test data. On commerical aircraft, the...

    mk3's and rain

Something you guys need to understand...vehicle weight has nothing to do with the speed hydroplaning occurs. A tire hydroplanes at 9 times the square root of the tire pressure. At 35 psi = hydroplane speed of ~54 miles an hour (9 x 6 = 54). With 65 psi = hydroplane speed of ~72 mph (9 x 8 =...

    Will timing affect horse power?

The CPS needs to look like this: That's with the cam gears pointing at the index and the crank damper pointing at zero. The adjustment bolt should be in the middle range with it looking like this. Decking the head will affect valve timing a bit, but not 3 degs. You really don't want...

    Will timing affect horse power?

You asking if it's OK to run the motor with the timing retarded. You are kidding...right? Is this on a stock set of cams? Sounds like your CPS is off a tooth. Or, you didn't set the cam gears and crank damper properly when you installed the timing belt.

Woodpecker sound only under boost after replacing the Heater Core

The EBCs I'm aware of use a solenoid, not a stepper motor.

    so i was thinking?

Give it that "smooth" look? I've seen it...don't care for it personally.

    Worth Saving - BHG Sludge

Ummm...No. Educate yourself by reading this: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20486 Why do you think I posted such a detailed motor flush ;) Even then, the damage to the bearing may be too much. A very good flush is the motor's only chance.
