No that's a Torsen in the car (well a Detroit TruTrac the American version of the Torsen).
Install is a bolt in of you swap the entire pumpkin, T1 Torsens don't cope too well with shock loads but having said that I ran 500+rwhp through mine for years before I swapped it out for the 9".

Line pressure cable will only affect full throttle shift firmness, so unless you're Nailing it in bends that's not your issue.

Check to see if the housing is offset or if there are different ones with the centre spindle on an eccentric, this is how adjustment for different ratios is usually handled but it's been 10 years since I had a W58 here and I can't remember.
ALL of the W gears are interchangable ie: W55/57/58 and so on, there's a list of colours/teeth count somewhere I'll ask a bud if he has the link.
Cable comes without a gear so you'd be connecting it to your old one anyway.
If you sit on a recumbant and not apply pressure on the bad leg does it still hurt? (you adjust the foot strap to hold the foot and let the other leg pull it around)
