You run the risk of damaging the Front seal and Pump in the trans removing and refitting it leaving the convertor bolted to the drive plate... :(

I'd lay a gasket on it and see if the errosion is inside the copper sealing ring of a composite gasket then lay that on your MHG of choice and compare.

I fully expect the thread to come out with the plug if it's that tight.

Make sure you check the flange for straightness when it returns.

Much the same as pulling the EFI fuse it's disconnecting the Injector resistors so there's no power getting to them, be aware however that the Ignition is still live.
