    You can drop the Damper in boiling water and it "should" slip right on but if you hesitate it will clamp down and the wood/bfh needs to come out! ATI went to an actual press fit and their dampers are a bitch to get on/off so would probably be a "fix" for the OP, he could make a custom key...

    Air tank system looks like it would be a good option, I'm in the same boat here if I drop mine anymore I can't get in/out my driveway due to a sharp downslope half way down it.

    I'd be more concerned about the diameter of the shaft as that's what locates the damper it's a light press fit, the key is ONLY for indexing.

    I built my old V8 Z car boosterless way back, just meant a lot of math to get the leverage/mastercylinder ratio correct but worked fine, another alternative is a pair of small remote boosters, I did this on another heavier car I built, VH40 for the fronts and a VH44 for the rears.

    Which places it firmly in the "use at own risk" or Your mileage may vary" bracket! Thanks for your input on this one 3P, I always suspected it wasn't the best way to go about it but didn't realise there wouldn't be a uniform shift in parameters one way or the other.

    LOL that's what I was basing the 7000 I quoted earlier on, my GE would go to 7 before hard cutting so in reality 6800 and 200 of inertia/brain lag before I pulled the next gear.

    Have a look at Wes Beech's vid of his burnout that's hard cut, yours sounds a bit like valve float from your description.

    Pretty sure the stock hard limit is 7000ish, ignore what the redline on the Tach is I'm talking about the hard cut.
