I tried multiangle vale jobs on my 7M when I had it, failed pretty quickly due to the fuel I was using (LPG) but I imagine Unleaded isn't going to be far behind.

A leakdown test will give you an idea of what's damaged in the engine, #5 being ok rings the alarm bells as if it were a ring issue why isn't it dead as well?
More fuel is always better with Turbo engines, my rough rule of thumb is I double what I think I'll need in the pump department.
Nothing kills a Turbo engine faster than a lean out under power.
Guess it would have depended on demand at the time, can't see any manufacturer stopping at 500 if they have orders for more but as I stated that wasn't the case with many of the other brands they struggled to make/sell 500 ;)
