That grommet does not come off. If you buy a new cable it has a new grommet. A used cable seems like a bad idea anyway. My original cable started making noise on a cold day after about 9 years. They wear out.
I've started a thread in off-topic lounge on this important topic of airplane maintenance... :biglaugh:

Does anyone remember Aloha Airlines flight 243. A severe example of fuselage fatigue caused by very high number of short inter-island flights.
On April 28, 1988, Aloha Airlines Flight 243 Boeing...
A new harness is a good idea on many of these cars as the 20yrs exposure to underhood heat makes the wire insulation and connectors very brittle. Plus, the harness clamps fall apart as well, especially the ones attached to the engine itself, which can lead to chaffing and intermittent short...
For the ECU and ECT, the supermonitor will set the diagnostic mode automatically (It has connections to the TE1 and Tt diagnostic pins of the two ECUs). For cruise and ABS, you have to do it manually. If you look at the wiring, you will see that the only connection to the Cruise and ABS...
OK, but the tests you did seem to show the coils/wires were okay, and your said the plugs looked fine. I guess I am wondering what the evidence of ignition problems is? I think at this point you really need something like a scope trace of each plug to verify all is well. Also, the ECU has some...
Sounds like an intermittent wiring problem then. You should never see code 22, as it is a major malfunction of the sensor circuit. You will not get a code 22 from overheating.
Seems like you've identified a problem that can result in a no start, namely the fuel pump not running.
The grease in the diag box is normal, and is there to keep the contacts from corroding.
When you jumper the fp to B+ WITH THE IGNITION ON the fuel pump must run and you will hear fuel...
22 is a short or open in the coolant sensor circuit. This is why I asked if you had read the TSRM diagnostics pages. It will not be set because the car overheated.
Most likely you have a wiring problem between your sensor in the thermostat housing and the ECU. It will also cause hard...
