Who Makes What Tools. (Interesting Read)

Having worked at a GM dealership I've come to the conclusion on these two things: 1.) THE TOOL DOES NOT MAKE THE MECHANIC. Most everyone in the shop has their arsenal of Mac and Snap-on in their shiny tool boxes that cost more than I paid for my Supra. BUT! The highest paid and most...

    new to toyota

Might have better luck posting this in the "Other Engine Tech" or "General MKIII Discussion". Though you are looking at a possible 2JZ swap you're still running a MKIII chassis, therefore you are still a MKIII. Post in the section where other people who know and discuss MKIII stuff and you'll...

    Upgrade Alternator !!!

If I'm not mistaken, stock is somewhere around 80 amps...so I would think a 130 amp alternator would be tons. The biggest problems you'll run in to is pulling power from the wrong places and blowing fuses. Do your homework, wire it in properly, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Major oil and tranny leak... $$?

The reverse gear doesn't have syncros, most don't. It's not unusual for you to get a little grind going into reverse on any car. Two things you can do to minimize this is don't shift into reverse when moving at all (you shouldn't be anyways), and while holding the clutch, shift in to 2nd or...

    lsd & trani. cleaning

Yeah, that is true, but I wouldn't see why spraying it through the fill hole on a sealed diff and rotating the gears wouldn't do the same trick.

    Spotted supra

Yeah, I was gonna say I don't know of any other Abbotsford white Supras than my own...and it's been off the road for a while now. And trust me, I keep an eye out ;)

    What plug gap for 25+PSI?

Well if I were going to be going to the dyno I'd much rather been those types of numbers then the opposite. Looking forward to seeing dyno sheets :D

    Possible BHG?

Yes, my compression was 150 +-4psi with mine.

    silly honda's

Honestly I've seen rediculously quick D16's...laying down times in the low 12's. But then again, they need a ton of money poured in to them. I hate cars like that....because it's usually in like an 89' DX hatchback being held together by tinfoil and bondo. So it looks like junk, but will...

    blew airflow meter

I'm guessing he means fried the electronics. That would come from one of two places, either too much power or shorting pretty badly. Honestly I don't know how you'd manage to force too much power to the unit, so I would check your connectors, wiring, etc and make sure nothing is shorting. If...

    lsd & trani. cleaning

What we used at the GM dealership to clean out truck diffs and such was actually brake/parts cleaners. The stuff you buy in an aerosol can. You can spray it enough that it collects and flows down to the drain, taking the gunk with it, and then after you're done you leave it for about 10...

why is my turbo so laggy?

I wouldn't think it would be a boost leak, otherwise you'd be running in to other problems such as boost creep/spiking, but it's worth a check. You can never be too sure. How big is your IC and plumbing? A larger volume inside the pipes and IC does typically flow better, but it also takes...

I do miss it so much...

So today I started prepping my car to head across town to do my head work. I've been told pretty much fifty fifty that I should tow it or it will be fine to drive over, so I made the decision to save my $60 or $70 and just drive the car. The car's been parked in my driveway for almost a year...

    Turbo Predicament

I would agree with MDC...doing an NA-T conversion is a lot less work than a full engine swap. If you want you can go and buy another car, but it's really up to you. I like getting my hands dirty too, so I don't mind doing the work.

    Hitting fuel cut... Help?

I'd still check to make sure that you have no leaks with a boost leak detector just to be 100% sure.

    Possible BHG?

Do a compression test or if you have the tools (or are just getting it done by someone else anyways), a leakdown test. Is there any funny residue inside your coolant resevoir? Any rainbow swirls sitting on top of the coolant in the resevoir and/or the rad when it's cool? Does the exhaust...

valve job machine shop asked me about

I'm getting all the head work that you're getting and I'm expecting to spend about $500 - $600 + tax. I'm going to be doing the comp cams 975 (chev big block inner) spring mod myself, which comes out to be rediculously cheap, but that's up to you. Here's a link to a thread discussing it...
