if you think a mk3 is bad after driving one of those, hop in virtually any re-built car from the 60's-70's and you will have a new appreciation of the supra. The reason so many things feel different is because it is a 20 year old car with 20 year old parts! I've had 2 '89s, one with 160k kms...
a few pictures from today:
re-finished front subframe w/new lower control arms
more control arm
mk4 rear vs mk3 rear brakes
the new parts room (unimpressive, yes...many parts are boxed)
i like that idea...hopefully that is all I will need.
edit: so you are saying that toyota's reccomended plastic hammer won't cut it to remove the driveshafts? lol
i tried the impact wrench on it for a little while and got absolutely nowhere. I think I might have to fab up a steel plate to bolt the diff side of the axle to and go about it that way.
First order of business: subframes.
assembling the front and rears right now
in retrospect, not removing the 32mm axle bolts while the car was together was a mistake. Not sure how I'm gonna secure the half shaft to break 207lb-ft + 18 years of corrosion.
including the cost of the car, roughly 22k has been spent so far. There is still probably 4k to be spent before the car gets put back together, and then another 2ish if I deem it necessary to upgrade the turbo...which I probably will.
the effectiveness of sway bars is based upon torsional stiffness - adding anything that does not create a rigid bond with the inside of the tubing is useless, it is just adding extra weight. Either go for solid bars or thicker walled, larger diameter ones.
if you've cut the rubber off already, get some vise-grips and clamp the screws. You should be able to put enough force into them to get them out....or bend the sheet metal trying.
FWIW, yes, those are a super bitch to remove - I think i removed 3 and let my body guy deal with the last one
