yikes! if the car is not going to be street legal, fuel cell it and replace the majority of that bodywork with custom sheet metal. I'm afraid to ask what it looks like under the wheel wells - with that amount of rust in the locations pictured, i wonder about the integrity of the rear end strut...
I went with elemental designs edead V1^2 - its a butyl base, 45 mil thick. I did a double layer on the floor and I am doing a triple layer in the hatch area. The stuff is fantastic to work with too.
update:
sound deadening complete in the cabin - nearly finished in the hatch area. I've finally started to put some stuff back into the car - Thank god for taking lots of pictures when disassembling...
that is a locational thing - the price of getting a car shipped to canada is stupidly expensive. In Edmonton at least, most MK3s are going for 8-10k now, which is ridiculous considering most have spent their lives among the salt.
well...for one thing, I didn't do the work myself - also, I had a lot of body work done (rear 1/4s/outer fender wells removed and new ones installed) so there would have been quite a bit of exposed metal to clamp to. Also, for what its worth, clamp the ground in a location that you don't really...
Ah, you answered my question before I was about to ask it...Did you actually get inside the door and apply the deadening, or just apply it behind the interior panel?
not to mention that the majority of the stock sound insulation separates from the sheetmetal of the car (ok, at least in the case of my car) and actually adds to the loudness problem by rattling.
i was referring to the thread poster with that comment...thinking that he could weld to the car by grounding his workbench - That kind of thinking leads to people getting hurt.
why you guys would put a product that is typically composed of asphalt (think low flash point) near things that get extremely hot is beyond me. Add that, along with the fact that the adhesive of several sound deadening products is less than ideal at elevated temperatures, and you have a perfect...
weird...i was in tokyo about about 2 months ago and didn't see a single car resembling one of those, although, I would assume they aren't running around the streets all the time. However, I did see a mid-90s thunderbird and alot of lhd dodge durangos for some reason...USDM tyte i guess?
