This is a very common misconception.. True that it was outsourced for refinement, but you forget one thing, we already had the 1JZ which is identical component wise in many ways to the 2JZ. There are definitely changes but there are also similarities.
I would like to see proof that anything...
I honestly think the 3.73 is the best but not for BPU power, on the other hand I'm not a fan of the 4.3 craziness either. My 3.91 is what I consider the middle ground and the best, problem is theyre all old as hell.
you would if you had the money to do what they did.. the volumetric efficiency of the 3s is insane. less weight and puts the engine behind the front wheels. the 3s is good and long as you can keep it in its powerband.
because its lighter, put the engine behind the front axle and gave the car a 50/50 weight balance IIRC.. plus it revs to the high heavens and its pretty cool to say you have a 700hp 3s under the hood, especially to those with a 2J haha. Thats pretty much how I figure Nagata-san saw it.

Apex makes the best filter hands down.. there is a jza70 specific one but is identical in design to the HKS one that has the like 10" pipe coming from the factory rubber twin bend coupler. custom is the way to go and then use the filter.
the 1J head is best for the 1J and the 2J head is best for the 2J.. the 1J head in stock form can be a small upgrade for the 2J, but nothing amazing, a lot of people do it to N/A 2J's or if their 1J head was already built. But the 2J head on a 1J would be a downgrade as the flow velocity would...
Well if this is gonna get serious why not throw it all out there..
RPS had a huge problem for some time with the springs breaking as well as the rivets wearing loose on their clutches.. It may even still be going on. From what I remember, it was a problem with the discs though.
I left this...
