It would be okay to do it if you were using forged pistons but still a good idea to have them. With stock cast pistons, you need to keep them.

If you want to run more boost you'll need to get the lex AFM or go maft. With the lex afm and a safc you should be able to run more boost and get a little bit of a tune which should get you to 300 no problem.
