Sucks about being rear ended, glad there was no damage. If you use a heat gun on the bumper it'll probably take out the imprint. Of course since you were going to get it painted at some point it's probably not a big deal anyhow.
A few years ago, TWO DAYS IN A ROW on my way to work at the SAME...
Thanks for the comments all!
johnd - you're thinking of tekdeus. Yes his car is gorgeous.
I would sure hope there is no cracking. The adhesive I'm using is top notch stuff and is designed to flex slightly for that reason. I'll do the final glaze with Evercoat Poly-Flex and just hope for the...
Thanks supra1008!
I made some progress over the weekend.
Started shaving the fuel door.
Crude mold - two layers of Tony's pizza boxes and some painter's plastic.
I only took pics of the first two layers which were cloth, after that I put on several layers of mat, which is not as...
More progress...
Ground the welds smooth.
Clecos. Didn't need them all the way around. The angle the overlay and fender meet at on the top edge aren't conducive to using them anyhow.
Underneath.
Driver's side is coming along.
On to the passenger side. First I bent the new wheel...
Yeah the light still works. The lens keeps popping out now and takes the LED's with it.
I made a little progress tonight.
Trimmed the overlay for tire clearance.
Trimmed the fender well.
I have a timing light, multi-meter and feeler gauges. You're welcome to come by and use them whenever. I get off work at 6 and would be happy to help after then, or this weekend.
Thanks!
Made some more progress today.
Trimmed the arch a bit to match the wheel well profile. I drilled the hole so that I could use a punch to hammer the gusset against the remaining wheel well to weld it.
Trimmed the gussets.
Welded the gussets to the edge of the remaining inner wheel...
Here goes nothing. No turning back now. :yikes: I guessed at the fender liner profile by feel and gave myself about 3/8" of slack.
There is some gusseting that I will need to tie in to the replacement piece. Breaking the spot welds was a bit of a pain. I could have drilled them...
Connector 1? Did you verify that goes to the A/C pump? On mine, there was one that went to the bottom for the speed sensor. It's not used and I just clipped it off. I don't remember if it looked like #1.
On mine there is a separate single wire going to the clutch on the front with a connector...
You should be able to skip the EA2 plug altogether and just run the body wire straight to the A/C compressor, as it was with the 7M. I had mine like that for a while, then later I ran it through EA2 to clean things up.
I believe the second wire was to trigger the relay for the helper fan. If I...
Had a busy weekend, but didn't have much of a chance to work on the car. I did pick up some Cleco's and pliers, another tube of panel bonding adhesive, and a much needed new welder tip and nozzle. I might need to pick up some more sheet metal for the fender wells, but otherwise I'm ready to rock...
Thanks!
Huh?
Made a little progress tonight. I got the passenger fender to fit a bit better. I took a grinder to the insides where it meets the body and leveled out the high spots. I also cut off the recessed portion for the fuel door that I'll be shaving anyhow. It fits much better now...
Santa came early this year :D
The passenger one didn't fit right up quite as nicely, I think there are some clearance issues due to the shaved fuel door. No biggie, I'll be shaving the one on the overlay as well.
I'm also not super thrilled about how they fit to the wheel arch in a way...
