Jon's 1989 1JZ single turbo restoration and build: Stellllllaaaaa!

Well folks, I have some sad news. When I started this project I was a single guy with a passion for cars and a paycheck to kill. Now I'm at a different life stage, and raising a family is priority. Between lack of time, lack of space, lack of "fun" money, and just a general shift of...

The flare nut should turn, that is "the bottom sections that are immediately off the hardline". You'll want two wrenches, use an open-end on the adapter that goes into the trans to hold it stationary, and use a flare-nut wrench for the flare nut or you'll just round it off. If the line tries to...

The fitting should rotate independently of the line - if it doesn't, it's probably just seized to the line. Be sure to use flare nut wrenches or you'll round off the fitting quite easily.

Unfortunately mine don't fit like that. There is definitely something off with the fitment. The rest of the body is straight as an arrow, and the factory fenders were bolted up with perfect fitment. I measured vs the stock fender and from the front edge where it meets the nose piece to the spot...

I'm not sure what the deal is, if it's just mine that's off, or if it's both sides even. It shouldn't add much to the cost if you're already paying them to install, prep, and paint them. Thanks!

Jon's 1989 1JZ single turbo restoration and build: Stellllllaaaaa!

Finally got around to test fitting the front fenders: Wide profile vs stock profile: How much wider? They sat about 10mm or so too far in at the top, so I had to use a spacer bolt on one of the tabs to push it out to match the doors. I'm not sure why this is - the top...

I'm sure he'll probably want one of those "old school, classic" MKIV's by then.

We had a new arrival on Nov 2, a baby boy, ::w00t:: so car progress is completely stalled for a while. I did receive the front fenders from the group buy last Friday. Call me crazy but I do intend on modifying those too. :yikes: Maybe by the time the kids are driving the car will be ready :)...

More bumper progress this weekend. I think I am finally close to the final shape. I widened the radius leading into the "outer" holes with the bars, and blended it into the face. I also tightened up the radius on the edges leading into the center hole, it now matches the top of the center hole.

I know what you're feeling, Andrew. Mine totaled to about the same amount in 2007. No idea where I'm at with it now. Sometimes I think it's best not to know. :) It's a hobby and a passion, not an investment. For repairing plastic, I've found that the Loctite Plastic Bonder epoxy they sell at...

A little more progress: I think I'll change it to a nice wide radius going into the side holes, right now it is pretty small.

Thanks redbullx83, mytymk3! flyguyaaron, I assume you're talking about the gas springs for the doors? I'm not sure, I can check if they're marked. The rear fenders are pretty much ready, they just need some primer. Now I'm waiting for the front fenders from the group buy, once I have those, I...

Monday or Wednesday evening works, Tuesday I have puppy school and Thurs-Sat is Lone Star Ruby Conference. Whatever you need welded, I can probably do it. If you want, we can also try to fix the flange angles by cutting and re-welding.

Don't sweat it, I've done plenty of noobish things, we all have. The flanges have some adjustment too, you can loosen them, tweak them, and tighten them. I had to do that a couple times with my HKS exhaust to get it to fit just right. That might be all it needs to avoid the subframe. I can add...

Great work, you have good taste. Lots of similar aspects to my build. I welded up that same port on my coolant bypass pipe, and even though the weld was good, it leaked from one of the nearby joints. They were apparently brazed, and the weld got hot enough to cause a leak there. I sawzalled the...

Where's Auston? :) I'm not familiar with it, but it's a long ways from me. The reviews do look good though.

We had family in town over the weekend, so nothing too major for updates. I worked a bit last night on blending the fenders in but there isn't really much to see.
