Im with you poodles, 95% of all bleeding (brakes and clutches) can be done by gravity bleeding. I just speed up the process with a hand pump on the master cyl. Its amazing the exhausting confusing processes people come up with, to get air out.

Your over thinking as this is a non interference motor. But if you still think the piston may hit the valves, turn the bottom end so none of the pistons are at TDC, and turn the cams all you want. (as you would on an interference motor)

Does it feel like it will go into gear, without the motor running? Was the tranny stored on end, on the bellhousing?

You need an OBD II scan tool to read the codes. Most aftermarket tools dont read SRS codes though.
