take a peek at my build thread (in signature). Mine had a little more visible rust than that, but underneath the car is where it got hit the hardest. The rear fender wells are very susceptible to rusting out...poke around up there for a while. If anything feels soft, chances are it has been...
You remove the subframe and pop them out. That doesn't look like a hell of a lot of movement, but they might be rusted out. If you have a press, they are easy to replace.
I had to swap the units over when I got my re-manned rack.
Do you have both units side by side? If the racks look the same, there should be no problem.
I'm not so sure your problem lies with your boost controller. If it did, the minimum boost you should be hitting is whatever your wastegate would normally open at.
I can hit positive manifold pressure pretty much instantly slipping the clutch from 4.5K, but this is with a much smaller turbo.
It will certainly be laggier...but your manifold pressure is still +20 psi irrespective of what the large turbo is doing. I'm sure it takes some tinkering with the sizing to avoid a dip in the boost vs rpm chart from this lag though.
