Naw he should worry about it b/c it means there is a problem. Don’t be the typical MKIII owner..... Meaning spend the less time, money and effort on maintenance but spend more money, time and effort in performance. Getting the car to run right should be 1st.

Cars still run with major leaks after the turbo and before the turbo.... I have a pretty big hole in my accordian hose and my car runs fine. At idle i am bouncing between 14.7 and 15.8 A/F and at full boost at 14psi i am in the 11's. I think you have some other issues that you arent aware of...
Backwards? Wow thats a first ...... You could start the car with the accordain hose off ..... it wont run great but it will run like it has boost leak. However you can see the fins turning
2ways that i know of i personally like #1 .....
1) open the oil cap and look down to see where the cam lobe is pointing and you want it to be pointing up.
2) remove the spark plug for the #1 cyl and put a long screw driver in it and you want the screw driver to be all the way UP
This might not be the correct way but i losened the bolt in the front of the pump and i put a pry bar on a solid area of the pump or bracket to increase the tension and my free play is basically none
Subtract some fuel man ..... you already know one of your major issues.
Think about it .... "I know i am running pig rich and I fail my emission due to a high HC count and HC means unburnt fuel" .... :slap:duh!!
ahh i remember when i made the same mistake ..... i was so used to do installing the w58 and i spent about 1hr to figure this out. Dont bolt down the PP and disk instead put them on the shaft and then install the tranny :)
