Let me save you some time.
It's going to sound about the same...and by running it (given it's current condition), you will be diminishing any chance (slim/none) of rebuilding it.
I wouldn't waste the oil on it.
Easiest way to set it (forget the feeler gauges):
1.Jump the diagnostic connector
2.Loosen the 2 tps adjustment screws
3. Starting from near the bottom of it's adjustment (going clockwise) turn the tps til your not blinking code 51, than keep moving it in small incraments until 51...
Yeah, there is if you drill straight. I'd pull the block and use a drill press to make sure. It's not ideal no matter which way you go.
As far as cracking the block, it's a possibility...but what are your options? Right now you've got a useless block if you can't bolt the head down. I've...
You'll have to get it apart before you'll be able to tell, but it's bad. I would consider a good used engine, maybe a jdm replacement if money is the main concern.
A momentary loss of oil would do it.
As you said there was almost no oil left in the motor. At the speed and rpm's you were going...think about it.
That was enough time to burn up 10 motors.
Loud rod knock...very bad. And I think I hear some valve train noise too (it's a cacaughany of clankering calamity).
I'm afraid that motor is a boat anchor now. Sorry.
That's not my experience...JDM's are just like any other Toyota motor, do you think they make crappy motors for their home market? Not only are they just as good (better in some cases), if you find a supplier you can trust, he can probably find you a 30 to 40kmi motor.
Japan's smog and...
How does anyone get a 1JZ to pass smog???
Most states (Ca. for instance) will not smog certify any motor that was not available in the U.S. It's illegal to drive it on the streets if you can't get it registered, and you can't register it if it won't pass smog, so...?
Personally, I...
Who can say?
It's really just a matter of taste once you achieve a certain level of restoration. To some it might be someones frame off 100% stock restoration, to others it's some highly moded, barely recognizable as a Supra, monster.
To me, it's a Supra with a super clean, relatively...
I appreciate it. That's the first picture of it I've ever posted of it (other than the sig shot of my tails).
It's a total sleeper, which is why I kept the sawblades. I pretty much could have bought new wheels for what it cost to powder coat them. Anything bigger than 16's doesn't work at...
No my feelings didn't get hurt... and I wasn't picking on you. I just get tired of everyone chiming in to proclaim their distaste for sawblades. Actually, I think my powder coated blades look awesome (see pic in previous post) and I get compliments on them all the time.
And I agree with you...
