Made some progress today, pulled the head off and sent it to the machine shop and the headgasket was definitely blown. Seperate from rings for the water jackets and actually broke off completely in one spot. Head is at the machine shop. Hopefully i can get it back sometime early or mid next...

so im guessing where back at square one where the code 53 you MUST REPLACE the ecu then? just curious to see if other ppl got a code 53 and if replacing the ecu fixed it

Thats what i was thinking too bro, but i was just curious if its the really the wiring of the knock sensor thts causing code 53 and not the fact that its the ecu itself, even tho the tsrm is saying otherwise

so you didnt have to change ecu's? i thought when a knock sensor wiring is bad or there a short or break we get code 52 knock sensor signal?

Just bought a 87 5spd turbo, the only code it has is code 53 which is knock sensor program in the ecu is faulty. Only way to fix it is too replace the ecu. My question is this what cause the ecu to be faulty in the first place and how many of the members of this forum had a code 53 before...
