Thanks to the State of West Virginia I now know my speedometer is slow

Swapping the cluster will have no effect on speedometer accuracy. There is a small adjuster in the speedo for fine tuning but I doubt it will correct that much. Your only choice is to change the ratio on the cable by swapping the gear out or using some sort of adapter.

Safe to run harness off of battery charger?

There's no reason it would harm anything as long as you didn't start the engine.

    Price question

You're right, I had forgotten that. What Sash has then is something entirely different. He had an electronic sensor screwed into the transmission where the speedometer cable goes. The transmission had an ABS speed sensor as well.

    2jz-1jz alternator swap

Last night I found out something interesting. While the 2jz alternator is not a 'plug and play' drop in for the 1jz, it can easily be made into one. The difference between the two is the plug, the 1jz plug being round and the 2jz being an inline type. If you have a broken 1jz alternator, you...

How long will the power steering last without fluid?

When I put my 1jz in, I didn't hook the pump up but I left the belt on it, and it spun dry for ~8k miles. When I finally hooked it up and filled it with fluid, it worked fine, but it whines from time to time. That could be from running dry for so long or it could have already been bad, who...

    Emanage wiring question

The emanage blue port uses TTL, so you need a cable which converts serial communication to TTL. Fortunately, you can get a USB to TTL board on ebay for ~$20 shipped. With some soldering skills, you can make it work for pretty cheap. Not quite plug and play, but not too hard either.

    I just bought 88 M/T ecu

You may be in luck, the mk3 the transmission computer was separate from the ECU. It's in the passenger kickpanel. However, as to what you might have to wire to get them to work together (or if it's possible at all) I have no idea. Considering that 7m ecu's aren't all that hard to find you might...

    Emanage wiring question

You just use the 2jz settings: 7,4,0

I Need a Little Help with Vacuum Lines

Where does that hardline go in the 5th pic? (The bigger one) The PS idle up valve is usually connected right where the high pressure port is on the PS pump. That PPS plug connects to the small white connector coming from the steering rack on the passenger side, you'll have to extend one of...

I Need a Little Help with Vacuum Lines

The first and last pictures are the vacuum lines for the power steering idle up valve. The 2nd hose pictured goes to a 1jz component I didn't even use on my car so can't help you there. The smaller plug in the 4th pic is possibly PPS? Is it a 2 pin white plug? For the hoses in the 6th...

    ecu and wiring harness dilema

I would try and find a Soarer, Chaser, or Aristo harness and ECU. The Aristo is a little more work than the other two, because the Aristo ECU is programmed for the larger displacement 2jz. All of these harnesses & ECU combos will be cheaper than trying to find a supra one, since they're in...

    ecu and wiring harness dilema

It's not quite that easy, first off, no US supra wiring harness will fit the 1jz. You can only use a 1jz or 2jz harness from an overseas car. These usually cost a decent amount, $300-400. The ECU is the same deal, you need a 1jz specific one. Also, if that w58 is from a mk3 supra, then it...

Does anyone actually run the Suprastick? Manual to Auto questions.

I think a better question would be why run an Aristo auto, when it requires a custom driveshaft, mounts, shifting solution, and speed sensor to fit into a mk3. Not to mention it won't handle as much power as the r154. Also, if the A341 is like the A340, you won't have 2nd gear without the...

    1jz map sensor question...

When the vacuum line came off my map sensor, the car ran like total crap, but it ran. Although the sensor was still hooked up. The only effect it will have is mess up your ECU's ability to correctly determine airflow and therefore meter fuel. You will still have spark and probably some kind...

Anybody See anything wrong with my 1J ECU?

As 10secdream said, if the capacitors look fine it doesn't mean anything. Their values also can't be measured while they are soldered to the circuit board, so your best bet is to send it to driftmotion or someone who knows electronics if there is any question that they are good or not.

    Funnist supra story.

I was taking my friend out for a drive in the newly 1jz swapped car, and he said "I think there's something wrong with your car, it makes a whoosh noise when you shift." He was serious too.

    headlights dont work

Check the headlight relay. Other possibilities are the integration relay and the combo switch itself.

dont know where to go from here

The turn signal assembly is cake to remove...you take off the steering wheel and then remove a few screws, I'm not sure what approach you are taking but it seems as if you are over complicating it.

Interior Color - Grey or Dark Grey?

This is just a theory of mine from what I've observed, but I don't believe there was more than one shade of gray in any given model year. All 89-90 gray cars were 'medium' gray, and all 91-92 cars are 'dark' gray. The shadow gray interior was simply the normal dark gray interior with black...

How many supras do you own/ have you owned

I've owned 5, all were running and driving, although one of them became a parts car. Oddly enough, none of them were the same year, all but 1 were turbo. I had an 87, 88, 89, 90, and now a 91. All I need is an 86 and a 92 to complete the set. Anyone have a black 92 they'd part with? :naughty:
