A lot of people are doing borg warner turbos lately. I've been thinking about one of the S200SX turbos maybe the FMW 57mm it's a S200Sx with a compressor wheel from a EFR7670 and with a Max Flow Rate: 64 lb/min i could get pretty close to my 500hp goal.

that's usually for dash gauges like the oil pressure sending unit. If you want your mk3 gauges to work you need to swap or you can AEM sensors for everything.
did you re-wire your knock sensors properly? It's possible for a KS to go bad but I've rarely seen that to be the case (If you to throw money at it I do spare pre-89 sensors) 52 doesn't have to do with back firing or knock it's simply a poor knock signal. I would however not run "500cc"...
