Their are two ways you can do this, you can weld the two pipes or you can just put a rubber plug and clamp's on them. As for the part that is inside the car, the best thing to do is to leave it alone, unless you want to remove the whole dash.
Instead of using heat or water to remove dust or glue or whatever, i would just dip the whole thing in carburetor cleaner or Parts Immersion Solvent, leave it for a couple of hours, then rinse it with water. every speck of dirt will be gone. if you dont believe me try it on any metal or plastic...

first of all, can i just remove the PVC valve and hookup the intake and the exhaust side to the catch can...
This has been discussed many times, it all depends on what you want from the car. If you want a cruiser and a daily driver without bleeding your heart out, then get the 2J. And if you want a fast way of making power, but you will have to pay more, then get the 1J.
