    Reiketsukan's Progress Thread

Cool. I still haven't decided what turbo I want to go with when I start rebuilding this spring. :) I'd like to go with some fancy VGT turbo, but the budget will probably constrain me to something more mundane.

    Reiketsukan's Progress Thread

Glad my old DDP went to a good home. :) I'm probably going to order another one soon, I'm debating on whether I want to get one with a flex section this time. Have you had any problems with the lack of one?

    Finally got my head off

Cool, thanks for the tip. I'm going with a composite HG for now, there will be a full buildup with forged pistons and a MHG in the not-too-distant future. Oil was drained before I started working, and I'm going to change it again shortly after I get it running again in case I got any crap in...

    Finally got my head off

Illustration: The crud is pretty uniform across all 6 cylinders, including the ones without HG trouble. It is slightly worse on cyls 3, 4, and 5. It has the consistency of very dry tar. Crosshatch on cylinder bores. I'll grant this is the first time I've had a running motor this far...

    Finally got my head off

Hmm, that makes me sad. It was well-maintained by me during the 20k or so miles I drove it, but I can't speak for previous owners. I wonder if the oil crud on the pistons and the crosshatch on the bores indicates an improper break-in?

    Finally got my head off

Sorry, I'm used to philosophy classes where people are more than happy to pick apart my statements and tell me why I'm stupid. ;) I will rephrase as a question: Is it normal to have that much crud on pistons with ~150,000 miles on them? There also seems to be a lot of crosshatch remaining on...

    Finally got my head off

Cool. BHG it is, then. As for the oil in #5: The pistons all look pretty nasty. I just figured that was because it's a ~150,000 mile motor (not sure exactly, I know it had 120,000 when it was put in the car, but I don't know how many miles it was driven after that). No pools of oil or...

    Finally got my head off

So it's blown if the water passage seals are deformed, even if the seals on the piston side are OK? Really off to the bar now.

    Finally got my head off

I know, took me bloody long enough. Wasted most of this afternoon driving around looking for a 14mm hex socket or allen wrench -- finally found one at Autozone. The head gasket didn't look too bad to me, but I'm a newbie. What do you guys think? The #5 cylinder (on the right in the...

My Supra just became a daily driver.

Just don't make eye contact. That's why noone else is making eye contact. There are a lot of weirdos out there, so everyone just wants to keep to themselves. If your wife steps on one of these trains and acts like a normal, friendly, outgoing person, that will mark her as a target. I live two...

What is the greatest ROCK Album of ALL-Time

People are stupid. Music is art, and good art is driven by a need for expression. If I say I like Van Gogh, should people think I'm going to cut my ear off and send it to a hooker?

What is the greatest ROCK Album of ALL-Time

I couldn't pick any one album, but I'll throw a few more choices out there. :) Metallica - Ride the Lightning Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power Tool - Lateralus (actually I might pick this one, fucking deep album) Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies White Zombie - Astrocreep 2000 As an...

    Damn weather.

Yep, this is definitely some crazy weather. I had a little rivulet of water poking out my basement wall Saturday morning. Got a couple of boxes wet on the way to the drain. The metal show at Birdie's was deserted last night. Northside FTW +1. ;) Seriously, though, hope you guys are all...

TEMS firm tied to Auto trans shift points

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOwP02sNzyI is what he's talking about. That's Nick Mason's Enzo, if you're wondering why he keeps quoting Pink Floyd songs. I bet it would be possible with some custom logic, since I can't imagine the TEMS reaction speed and the auto tranny shift speeds are all...

post pictures of your stickers on your car...this thread will own!! (and be gay)(NWS)

I'll join, just because there is a funny/interesting story that goes with mine. I don't generally do stickers, but this one came on the car, and I never had the heart to remove it. Seemed like I'd be forgetting the POWs or something. I said as much to this crazy biker/veteran dude...

ROTM 2008 MAY WINNER: Tanya -AKA- TANYA

Huh. I never really dug on MkIIs, but I like yours. Lowered/black really works with that body. Congrats! On winning ROTM I mean, not on me liking your car. :)

    Is this normal?

Yep, it's bolted. I'm guessing my rack is too far up, or the elbow and bracket have been pushed rearward somehow.
  18. E

    Is this normal?

Not on that axis, I'd have to drill a hole in the bracket. I was thinking about having Jon (MDC) fab up some hardpipes for me, though, so I guess now he'll have to have the car while he's doing it. :)

Installing 7M Fan Shroud (How To?)

I removed the fan to do mine, but it wasn't hard - just four bolts on the water pump pully. Just gotta jam something down between one of the other bolts and the shaft to keep it from turning while you're trying to loosen a bolt.

    Is this normal?

I don't think so... it looks like it's an integral part of the rack.
