Toyota MR2's are highly reliable.
Having been in CASC, and Solo 1 Respectively with a competitive team, the MR2 was brought up a few times, but the irrational costs of replacement parts with it being an old car, and their cost to buy used... They weren't pretty.
Honda's are amazing for what they can do at a track, until you reach the FWD limitations.

what about an old mk2 supra? I NEVER driven one but there really cheap . I don't know if you can get after market parts.
do a second gen supra with 7mgte swap....youll get factory reliability (if done right) and good power to weight
