can't find the tech info on the bbc springs i have. Part # 975-12 comp cam. What can you rev them to with upgraded cams? Will they make it to 8k?

You could try but reving that high I would go with Ferrea duel spring valvetrain. To keep valve float to a min. ;)

Also depends on the lift on the cams you are looking at. I know there is something like you only want to compress the spring something 70-80% IIRC. There is a term for it but I forget.

I am running comp cam BBC springs with 272 cams and no problems what so ever here. But I am not reving any where close to that high ;)

think i'm gonna give comp a call with my specs as they are mild regrinds for good reason. I should mention that float is not what i was worried about as i now have solid buckets.

I come from a land down under
I prefer duals for the peace of mind if I'm going to rev an engine that hard.

8k would be nothing for your regrinds on a 83 lb seat pressure 127 lb open spring. And before anyone jumps in and says that is not the seated spec for that spring, it is at our installed height. What is the lift on your cams anyhow? Comp suggest not going any closer to .050 to coil bind.

Edit: And IJ is right. Nothing is safer than duals, but 8k is not out of bounds for that comp spring.

i thought you determined it was a problem with friction against another spring?

No after speaking with 1/2 doz spring manufacturers duals use a slight interference fit between inners and outers as a damper.

As I said in the PM I still think it was more of a xxx time spent above 8000 as there were 4 other springs that had dropped 15psi seat pressure.

i did check spring press last time they were out and they were all still even. I did not want to use a dual setup with high spring press as i have a 6 angle valve job
