ok so im almost ready to pull the engine out(this is my first time). just need to disconect the fuel lines, drain the tranny fluid Along with the clutch master cylender(not sure what or where that is but im sure I will figure it out once I get back under the car again) and disconect the driveshaft(though i remeber reading it just slides out?? Have to use the search button toighnt to figure this out:aigo: ) anyways I was looking at this guide:http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=423
and I don't get the point of #2 removing the crank pulley bolt?? My crank pulley is still on the engine is there a reason to remove it? does it not clear the engine bay mabye thats why???

When rebuilding the engine it makes life a little bit easier to losen the crank pully bolt .... by using the tq caused by the engine turning over instead of manual labor.

The driveshaft has to be unbolted from the center support bearing (the middle of the driveshaft where it bolts the chasis of the car be mindful that there are two big spacers between the chasis and the driveshaft) but you can leave it connected to rear end(diff)

A little bit? Removing the crank pulley beforehand has a couple uses.

First off, when the engine is in the car, you can just put it in gear, set the ebrake, and use a breaker bar to crack off the bolt holding the main pulley on, which is at 195 foot pounds, by the way.

If you pull the engine without doing this, you'll have to figure out some way to stop the crankshaft from spinning while you get this bolt off. It can be done, but it's a pain in the ass.

Secondly, the crank pulley is several inches deep, and those extra inches make it a LOT easier to get the whole thing out of the engine bay while still on the cherry picker.

WTF are you smoking?? Have you ever pulled the engine and tranny with that part of the driveshaft still bolted up? ...... I guess you want to fight with the tranny when you are pulling the engine and tranny out? That part needs to be dropped and out of the way.

Search about removing the engine and tranny...... Here ya go and it even has pictures too

just drop the tranny mount and u should be able to pull the driveshaft out. make sure your chains and what not are on the hooks very well. be careful and watch the hooks. ive seen some bend from time to time.

also, ur clutch cylinder should be on the drvier side of the transmission. its two bolts. 14mm IIRC. hot to hard, u'll need an extension though.

ur gonna need a pretty steep angle with the cherry picker to get her out. taking the crank pully off will help quite abit. oh, be careful with your motor mounts. mine sheared off because i didnt take my time and check clearences. :(

If you have the engine on a stand you can have someone hold the flywheel to take the crank pulley off... but then again thats the first time i ever got a metal splinter HA HA HA p.s. much worst then any wood splinter i have ever got. Just wanted to tell my story really :p

I have to weigh in on adam's side here... it doesn't. It's a whole lot easier if you pull the driveshaft first, but it's not an absolute requirement.

Thats the point i was making..... making life easier. You can pull the engine with the entire exhaust still bolted up but It would not make sense in doing that, but you can. You can pull the engine without dropping the tranny but its 10x's easier to just pull it also. Would you advice someone to pull the engine and tranny but leave the drive still bolted up?

The 2nd part is the install .... I will never ever pull my engine without taking the the tranny as well. I dont want to even imagine the hassle of putting the driveshaft onto the shaft of the tranny while the driveshaft is still bolted to the chasis. That would just be another PITA, trying to get the mounts in place while the tranny is hitting the driveshaft..... But i could be wrong and I am not willing to find out

So for ease in the removal and installation i drop the driveshaft.

anyone got pics of how to remove the fuel line?? I got the return one off, it just slides off but the other one looks like either I can remove it from under the intake runners with a 17mm wrenchs(tried won't seem to move but its hard to get any leverage on it not much room) or try and take it off farther down with a 14mm wrench(or was it a 12mm lol can't rember but it was smaller)

Put a socket on the bango bolt under the intake and use extenions and maybe a wobbler (universal joint) so you can get some leverage. Iirc its 17 mm. Dont lose the copper washers there is 2 of them.

Why would you guys compain about removnig the driveshaft? Seriously, it takes 3 minutes. 2 bolts and the driveshaft loop is off, 2 bolts, and the carrier bearing is out, and the driveshaft can be folded out of the end of teh tranny. You'll waste more time fighting with the tranny to come out with the DS in place then it will take to remove it.

Clearly I have done this...my car didn't disassemble itself.

If you have the crank pulley off the engine you just slide the engine back far enough and the driveshaft spline drops out of the transmission...followed by transmission fluid (learned that one the first time I pulled the engine...didn't make that mistake again)

Guess what, you can put the engine and transmission back in the car without unbolting the driveshaft too.
