Clearly I have done this...my car didn't disassemble itself.

If you have the crank pulley off the engine you just slide the engine back far enough and the driveshaft spline drops out of the transmission...followed by transmission fluid (learned that one the first time I pulled the engine...didn't make that mistake again)

Guess what, you can put the engine and transmission back in the car without unbolting the driveshaft too.

I think your still missing the point. It makes it alot easier to unbolt the two bolts...... Its your car and time. Who cares what other people think, do what you think will save you time and effort.

I've done it too many times, and drpping the driveshaft isn't needed until you're installing the engine/tranny again (though you CAN fight with it and put it back in without unbolting it).

There isn't any fighting going on to get the driveshaft to fall out when pulling the engine, it will simply fall out all on it's own as soon as you start pulling the engine...
