^^Might want to add some anti spatter to the aluminum piece. Personal experience with aluminum as a backing plate is that it does stick, just not well. If you have access to it, a thick piece of brass or copper also works well.

Have you tried working out what's what by using an appropriate year EWD? That should give you the colors for all the wiring in the car and tell you where your mystery plug should be plugged up.
