I dont expect praise, I figured Id make a post so those that are doing the same might have a little more info. If anyone has any questions or needs measurments for the mounts just let me know. I know mid 12's isnt impressive anymore but with a bit more tuning it should be a low 12 car when Im...
I need to bump up the launch control RPM. I was only leaving at 3000, it can foot-brake stall to 3800. After these runs I noticed I was fuel fouling the plugs. I changed to a hotter set Autolite AR3935's, tuned the carb a bit and put 4deg more timing it. I need to go back and see if it has a...
I understand that the reason for building a new engines is to improve what you have or redesign to make something better. The LS engines are quite a bit better then the Gen1's. The reason I say its overated is because everyone makes it out to be the best engine going, just like the JZ series...
Only thing the LS engines have going for them is they have an improved runner design and 15 deg valve angle. Take a Gen 1 engine with 18 deg or less heads and it will stomp a LSx.
And JZ engines are like LSx engines. Over-rated.
In other news I have finished another set of adapter mounts using the factory rubber mounts. These give 1/2" clearance under the pan and plenty of room to access the bellhousing bolts.
I wanted to use the factory rubber mounts but figured they would rip apart eventually. Solid mounts have been used for years in race cars, I should have just used an engine plate instead.
still nice to see another going the american way with HP. I just couldnt see spending big money on a 7M to make more power. As for traction problems I have a set of M/T ET radial that should help.
Better view of the new mounts... The legs attach to the factory crossmember with 1/2" bolts. A person could easily make the legs 1/2" shorter and use a flat rubber mount bushing (V8 Landrover) and not have to worry about being solid mounted. I still plan to run a poly trans mount just in case.
Getting back to the dead thread... Sold the ported 487's, bought a set of Darts SHP 200cc heads with 72cc chambers. Finished the engine off with Harland Sharp rockers, Comp pushrods, Dart SHP intake and made a new set of solid mounts.
Wiring owns me... I know this is just a easy sbc swap but I decided to get rid of all the extra wiring that isnt needed. So I have stripped the car of all the wiring and de-pinning all the un needed circuits. I had so many that were hot with ign on I didnt want to just cover them over and chance...
I am still saving for the AFR 195's but have a nice set of ported 487's now with 2.05/1.60 valves will roller springs to get me started
Winner!
Oh and the mounts I made work great but do to header clearance issues I need to do a re think on them.
