i used a set of NPR's last year. no problems so far. they seem to be reinforced the same as factory pistons and were about 10 grams lighter than stock.

from what i understand tuning of an intake system will remain boosted or not. of course depending on where the boost comes on the end result should mimic the n/a operation the system.
years ago modified mag did a test of a ford focus intake manifold used for a blown app. they tested stock long...
i think break-in assumes n/a operation. so i would think low or no boost is what you are seeking. W.O.T. should be at atmospheric pressure for break-in.
i think the idea is to apply careful positive (but aggresive) presure on the rings to seat them. so avoid vacume being applied and due care...

i have one of your "chinaman" split down pipes. very happy. at 1st it appeared to be causing a waste gate restriction. but it was the way it was bolted up. no problems now. impressed with the spool up (2200 rpm). no idea how much of an improvemet this is as i went n/a auto to turbo 5-speed.
do...
about 11.5" or 11.685" aprox at ring gear. around 22 lbs. R154 and w58 are different from each other.
the R254 is thiicker because of a deeper dished center for disk spring clearance.
no prob.
similar to what i did but this site post you referance didn't sell me. it was a aircraft engine supplier with similar method of break-in. came with a warning that the pilot was taking own life in hand if they did not break-in under load to seal the rings. you would have to seach under break-in...
it goes on the drivers side fender under the hood. right beside the igniiton module. should be a plug right there for it. and yes i beleive yor correct about what its for. ie headlight washer.
i resolved the bottom bolt prob by preinstalling the pipe before i dropped in my 5-speed turbo swap. didn't lile the look of that bolt at all.
