Hmm.. I'd really like to get rid of it. Except most of the info I've found here says keep it or it's going to detonate at partial throttle load conditions.
I don't like extra clutter in my engine bay. But because it's necessary for detonation suppression, I'm going to make sure it's working right and keep it.
I'm building my 7M, I wanted to ditch the EGR but apparently I can't without swapping to a JDM ecu. If I have to keep it, how do I test it to make sure it works properly?
My block needs to be bored over and the machine shop needs the pistons. I'm still torn and don't know what to order. Will the NPR's hold up fine? Mods include 3" turbo back, intake, and stock ct at 10 lbs. I do have a wideband. I will probably upgrade to a 57 trim eventually.
I think you got composite confused with cometic. composite is the factory style head gasket. you need to run one if you are not getting the block machined. have the head machined either way.
I want the engine to be very solid at 300rwhp. I'm torn between using NPR or Probe pistons. My Supra is my daily driver, so I didn't originally want a forged piston because I've heard they are prone to piston slap on cold starts. I've also seen the broken NPR pistons threads. Which is the better...
IIRC there is a member on here running them with over 500rwhp, they are supposed to be as good as stock pistons. I'm working on a ~350rwhp build on my daily driver 7M and plan on using them.
Trent, what were the specs on your engine?
I've read broken rings like mine are caused by worn cylinder walls which wear more at the top of the bore from more cylinder pressure against the rings. As the rings expand and contract along the uneven bore they eventually fatigue and break. Does this sound right? It makes sense to me, my...
:naughty:
haha. I have the engine out and the block on a stand ready to strip down and see what happened. I've been unsuccessful at getting the crank pulley bolt off though.
^ hahahaha. I just pulled the head off the car and it looked perfect. Even my composite headgasket looked brand new. The bore on cylinder 4 is smooth and it looks just like all the rest. Now I'm confused.
Even if it's something simple i'm going to rebuild it because of the mileage and so I can run a MHG. I will be installing ARP head studs and most likely ARP hardware in the bottom end as well. I was planning on using Driftmotion's upgraded oil pump. Any tips for finding a good machine shop...
I'm confident about working on the motor but I've never dealt with changing bearings or sizing pistons before. I'm assuming the machine shop will tell me what sizes to order, then I can bring them the parts so they can machine the block for the correct tolerances?
