So would I have good results if I just dropped the block off at an auto parts store machine shop and had it bored over and decked, then put in new pistons and bearings myself? I will definitely be using a MHG and new ARP studs.
My 7M had been running great for about 8 months with a new oem headgasket and ARP bolts. I was driving around town and floored it in 2nd and when I let off it was only running on 5 cylinders. I drove it 1/4 mile back home with no unusual noises and good oil pressure. I took off the oil fill cap...
Is this a good deal or is there something I'm missing?

I'm also considering a 1JZ swap now. If I can find a rear sump 1JZ it should bolt directly into my car with just new mounts, using the 1jz bellhousing, flywheel, and 7M clutch and R154 right?
My harness is older but everything works well. I'm can't see how the NA-T would be cheaper though, when a turbo kit for the GE is ~$1500 on driftmotion. It seems like I could swap in a GTE for less and be more reliable, even though it wouldn't have the performance of the single turbo NA-T...
I'd rather swap a 2JZGTE so I could lose the AFM and have a front facing intake. I'm just very intimidated by the wiring aspect of that swap. If I'm understanding what I've been reading correctly I need to wire in everything from the mk3 chassis into the 2JZ harness and ECU. Does anyone make a...
Yesterday I blew the 7MGTE in my 87. I want to swap in a 2JZ. Should I buy a JDM GTE and wire it into my car keeping the stock twins, or should I buy a GE, use my 7M electronics to run it, and use an aftermarket single turbo. I've searched around and am finding lots of information on both swaps...
Also check the rubber plugs in the spare tire well. If they are missing or you have rust holes back there, the vacuum from rolling down the window will pull in exhaust fumes.
If the headgasket is blown the coolant reservoir will be bubbling and overflowing, and it will be making waterfall noises in the dash on a cold start. Before you tear the head off, take off the turbo inlet hose and check for excess shaft play and scrape marks on the housing. I've seen a blown...
Buy some UV dye for the coolant. It makes it glow radioactive green and leaks are very easy to spot. Then take a good look at every hose. Don't forget the two under the intake manifold. Also check underneath the water pump.
