    Jdm 7mge oil pan

You can make it work if you've got a big enough hammer. The only two downsides to this approach are the drastically reduced oil capacity and the pump doesn't do so well when the pickup is crushed. :icon_razz

    Exhaust System

Nothing to do with "back pressure"... that's just nonsense. Try heat. ;)

coolant pipe on back of throttle body

That coolant line is there for a reason. Given where you live you may want to look into it. The purpose is to prevent excessive condensation or (worse yet) ice from forming in the TB and on the throttle plate. It doesn't have to be cold enough to snow outside for ice to form in the TB. The speed...

    Rebuild

They're labeled from the factory... stamped on the top of each in fact. While you're at it check all your valve clearances and adjust as necessary.

    Engine died while driving

I can think of a couple things that could shut the engine down and cause, what to a lay person might qualify ever so descriptively as, a rattle that aren't rod knock. Yes, some things are more common (and downright more likely) to certain engines but let's not jump to conclusions... especially...

    Engine died while driving

Too many possibilities and too little info. Why you asking us if you're taking it to your mechanic anyway? Sounds like he may know his way around well enough, at least he knew about the BHG propensity.

    problem with my speedo gear

You do need to drain the fluid... as me how I know... ick. Caught a sleeve/shirt full of gear oil. I reeked for days. :nono: I'll also add that a speedo drive gear from a R154 will not fit.

    Losing Interest

I don't have issues with the wife and the car anymore... well, sometimes. She's become the voice of "reason". I told her quite some time back all the reasons I should keep the car and I suppose I did too good of a job. While she doesn't like it when I borrow someone's garage for an afternoon...

Possible to remove crank and not remove head?

Yeah.... well, I *thought* it'd be quicker than redoing the whole HG and I felt I should replace the timing belt anyway. I didn't say I recommended it. I just stated that I did it that way and it's held up for several months now without leaking a drop (and yes, I've checked). I do plan on...

    Name That Problem! (2 Questions)

Err, my car did that up until I switched to the speed density setup. ;) Possibly an altitude thing in my case? EDIT: I didn't say everything else was all better though.... still have that extra richness after a warm start. Doesn't matter if the stock O2 sensor's connected or not. We'll save...

OEM, cheap universal or high flow for the replacement? It makes a difference. ;)

    Name That Problem! (2 Questions)

I've had a couple rich starts which didn't clear up for about 3 blocks. He said he turned the key and didn't "here" anything. But the question is, as always, does he know what he's looking/listening for. I was being presumptuous.

No, no air flow meter required. There is a way to run both speed/density and a MAF, but it's uncommon.

    Name That Problem! (2 Questions)

CSI = Cold Start Injector... already mentioned that. ;) Thanks Jdub, couldn't recall if the CSI needed a signal from STA or not. So, Zero, what that all means is that even though you're holding the ignition over the cold start injector still won't supply fuel until it's controller gets a...

    Name That Problem! (2 Questions)

So when you try to start the car and have to hold the key are you waiting for the engine to start cranking altogether or for it to just start running on it's own? A few possibilities if it's not cranking at all. Ignition switch, starter relay, starter or wiring. Does it do the boggy thing only...

My last bit of denial before the HG Job.

If it's been kept in that kind of shape for as long as you say the head gasket is the LEAST of your worries. Plan on pulling it and checking out the bottom end very thoroughly. A leaking head gasket just meas that there's a leak. ;) It doesn't specify where it has to go. A leaking HG could...

    Exhaust System

It'll help... but if they're not clogged it's nothing you're going to really notice. If it were me I would convert it to non-CA specs and if the cat is shot I'd invest in a good high flow cat to replace it. You will never notice the difference in performance between a test pipe and a healthy...

Possible to remove crank and not remove head?

I've pulled the timing plate and reinstalled it with the head on. Haven't had any problems with it in the several months that have gone by. I replaced my timing belt pulley last week and checked for oil leaks. I agree that it's not the best way to handle it. If you are trying to make this...

If you're swapping over a GTE intake manifold just swap over the TB. No, he's running a MAF-T. That's a MAF Translator. It allows you to use a GM Mass Air Flow sensor, a less restrictive type of sensor than the 7M-GTE's KVAF. You can see it up toward his passenger headlight in the pics. You're...
