Forgot to mention that I did not degree them just installed straight up as I finished working on them at midnight & was stuffed.
IJ is right about taking the time to degree them properly.
Will probably do that this weekend just to see how much they are out & what the difference in idle...
Running a Microtech MTX-8 standalone.
Idles at around 750 rpm (15-16) in neutral & 680 in Drive (14) when warm.
Adjustable cam gears certainly come in handy with these cams.
Needs to be warmed up a bit when dead cold not like my N/A which could be driven immediately with these cams.
Not...
Installed a pair of BC 264 cams in a 7MGTE recently.
According to the cam card they have 36 degrees of overlap.
It certainly does not like that much & I had to reduce it to 32 in order to get a decent idle & prevent occasional stalling.
I can easily reduce it further but am concerned at...
They could have cleaned up the combustion chambers a bit as you have some high spots.
Those exhaust ports dont appear to be of even diameter, did you measure them?
I thought the filter would trap some of the oil & water as the pressure running through it would be fairly small & not enought to force out all the contents?
Wondering if there would be any issues in connecting a see through fuel filter in the PCV line just before the throttle body inlet to act as a water/oil seperator on a 7MGE engine?
Perfect time to replace the cam cover seal if its hard & leaking.
Dont forget to put some sealer around the two corners of the #1 cam bearing & also the outside of the cam seal as this is one area where oil just loves to leak.
How many different types of valves are there for the 7M & how much of a difference would their shape make to the compression ratio?
Can you determine the compression ratio of the 7M by measuring the combustion chamber volume, which is around 39cc for the spare head I have in front of me, &...
Could I have some opinions of suitable DIY repair products, such as Quickaluminum, in regards to filling minor pitting in the combustion chamber & ports.
What sort of temperatures do these parts get up to in a N/A 7M engine?
Yes the turbo intake cam has slightly larger lift & 10 degrees more duration.
You will loose a bit down low but pick it up at the top end, been there done that.....
Dont forget to check that the valve clearances are within spec.
Valve lift @0.05 is 0.297" but I have been unable to find the...
Apart from the BHG issues what are the various restrictions, and possible solutions, of building a tough N/A 7M engine?
Please no "just go turbo" answers.
The choice is yours:
220 degrees & 0.336" lift for the BC264
218 degrees & 0.322" lift for the biggest advertised Web 7M cams
209 degrees & 0.321" lift for the smaller Web 7M cams.
