I had a conversation with Lance Wolken over on Mk3Tech about this and he indicated that the 7M valves run out of breathing room around the 700 hp point!
The port shape/size isn't the restriction when chasing big numbers.
I went with 1mm os Ferrera's from HPF for the new motor with shimless...

Cassio: Heat/Cold works really well until you fumble it halfway in and they equalise and get stuck! ;)
I'd be very surprised if the cracking issue is still there as the newer version uses 3mm thick tubes with a lot of load tabs.
I've posted a few pics in my build thread and while it's a tight fit on a RHD car a T04 should bolt on!
