Indio: It shouldn't "break" unless you have some big cams in there!
It'll just float the valves drop off in power and sound really bad till the rpm drops enough for the valvetrain to stabilise!
You can just about change out old stock springs using your fingers they're so soft!
Tubbie: I sort of doubt many will have explored the limits on stock gear as to get around the stock limiter generally requires a standalone and by that time you've installed good springs anyway.
The stock springs are quite light seat pressure and most motors have sacked out 50.000+ mile old...
ROFLMAO if you do it and don't post a vid I'll come there and make you suffer! ;)
Mine sounds awesome at 7200 and very different to a JZ engine at the same RPM! (7m sounds wicked revving the JZ's sound like a sewing machine)
(NOT hanging shit on JZ's they just sound very different at high rpm)
Nope the timing pully it the toothed pully, the balancer is the big pully that the Aircon Pwrsteer and Alternator belts ride on.
Each has a set of TDC marks but the balancer can slip and give a false reading.
Normally I'd use Permatex #4 where the MHG meets the front Cover but this time I just sprayed the MHG with Permatex Brake Quiet and no leaks!
It's the front Exhaust corner you can see the missing rivet in the pic!
Hope this helps, there is a paint mark on the timing pully you line up with the mark on the timing case then the Cam pulleys should be lined up at 0.
You may want to double check that the balancer hasn't slipped on it's hub giving a flase TDC.
My car's an original 86.5 NA and has it, I refitted it with the new motor just in case I break a mount it will help limit movement.
Seems the Aussie delivered Mk3's had some weird spec!
Econ: While it's not ideal if he gets a good tune/baseline then makes note of what EGT's it runs normally he can then use it as a comparative tool.
The actual "number" doesn't really mean much as there are so many variables to consider but it can be used as an early warning system in case the...
Back in 1987 my Sis had a Corolla AWD Wagon as a work car that I drove quite a bit, while it wasn't what you call fast from a dig on wet days it would embarrass the crap out of "Fast Cars" ;)
Over the last few months I'm happy to say I've seen a shift in SM towards a "Community" away from a bunch of guys with the same cars.
You can see it in the way the guys here are more than happy to help out when someone is in need.
Well done guys it makes a nice change from the general...
Run my new motor to 7200 no problems at all but it's not your average build.
I'll run it to 8000 but will take some time working up to it in small steps.
With the right supporting mods it's still pulling like a freight train at 7200 and I suspect will do the same at 8000.
