    Grim: If you unhook the hood struts then lay a blankie or something on the windscreen you can fold the hood back! (I do this when I pull the motor as the hood is a PITA to pull single handed)

    So this is the first time it's ran ? Could just be Oil from sitting. Get everything hooked up and see how it behaves these motors are a "system" everything is there for a reason.

    It doesn't "lower" the block it raises and tilts it forward. (I can't say with 100% certainty this works I'm just going on what others have posted)

    Not a big fan of the 2nd type unless they're really HUGE as you're restricting flow by half.

    Go visit a steel merchant and buy a box of scraps from their offcuts bin and practice practice practice! This way you remove dirty old metal from the equation and you can perfect your technique :) .

    Been installed upside down or a really old set? (try my suggestion with the trans mount and a jack) The motor will pivot on the front mounts and hopefully give you enough room to slide the head up over the studs.

    Be careful they're really easy to shear off as the fitting has holes drilled at right angles in it to allow coolant flow. If you unbolt the tranny mount you can jack up the trans enough to tilt the motor enough so the head will clear the firewall.
