LOL I understand that people have different ideas/experiances but there are certain basics when dealing with the 7M that will end up costing $$$ if ignored.
Unless you know the history of a head from day 1 you'd be a fool to take it on face value that it's still hard.
Spending $ on a soft...
I run Mk4 TT Rotors F&R it's not an easy install, there are many other bolt on kits that work great and don't require the custom machine work.
Hey Shawn!
I'm on my 3rd Heater control Amplifier in the Climate Control..
Same symptoms as a dead VSV but will give heat for a minute or two then drops back to full cold.
You need to ask "why" it's been stitting for a few years.....
Odds on being a 7M it came off a motor with a BHG and if it's been annealed it's useless so again a hardness test is the 1st step.....
Seriously I don't post just to make noise or increase my post count and anything spent on the...
Man I wish this urban myth would die already......
Lapping a block is done as a very final stage AFTER it's been machined think of it as an ultra fine polish it's NOT and never will be a substitute for a smooth flat true surface as required by a MLS gasket.........
The hardness test is like 30 seconds all they need is an area on each side of the head surface clean of gasket to do it.
Most shops will do it free while you wait.
It's a graduated glass tube with a ball in it they sit on the head then let the ball fall and how high it rebounds indicates...
SI: I think you may be thinking of the Pan to Timing case here and not the front main!
Front Main is a round Steel/Rubber Lip seal in behind the Cam Belt pully.
You don't need any other gaskets to change this.
Grease on the INSIDE and PermaTex on the OUTSIDE ;)
To get the seal out you can either use a seal puller or a sharp screwdriver to punch a hole in it allowing you to lever it out.
When you install the new one smear some Permatex #4 around the outside and some grease around the inside rubber lip.
The Permatex helps it slide into place then...
I'm using 1 to stand on while Fatty is up on stands as I'm too short to reach without it ;)!
(they're perfect for this use as they're stable with a nice flat face)
After stroke and piston speed valve control will be a hurdle you'll have to work out if you're going past 10000.
The Oil pump drive shaft will need to be machined to give it a 0 balance.
