It's just the age old electrolytic reaction between the different metals used in there that causes corrosion at the rivet.

Most of the dies jigs and press tools were either sold off to Taiwan years ago or sold for scrap so to retool to rerelease an old car just isn't a viable option as only a small group of enthusiasts would buy the car.
