Yes it was doomed by a Muppet Machinst when it was bored and decked!
He'd screwed a lifting jig into the Cam belt tensioner bolt hole which is directly in line with #1 cylinder, this pressed the bore in a bit they bored it and when he removed the jig it popped out and the bore had a 50c piece...
I have my own fairly well equipped machine shop and would hesitate to do this for a few reasons.
I bought a small roots type blower and when I got down to it to keep everything functional in a Mk3 leaves very minimal room to mount the blower and in the end the bang for the $ just wasn't there...
High Powered NA? is this an Oxymoron? :) <jk>
Take a look at Defiant 7M's build up if you're serious about getting power from an NA this is the way to go but it's always going to be a HUGE outlay of $$$ as there is little to no aftermarket for NA motors so going Turbo is the cheap option/best...

I...
Hardest part with building a GroupA replica pan would be the curved flange where it bolts to the rails, after that it's pretty straight forward.
I was going to do this but a genuine one came on the market so I snapped it up.
SH: a long time ago I had a car slip off the floor jack and pin me between it and the garage door, lucky for me the door bowed out enough that I wasn't hurt but ever since I'm double careful!
