I replaced the whole assembly as the actual part that extents the mast was gone on mine, and it looked like there insides where a bit jacked...
That, and I've tried repairing an antenna on another car with a new mast and cable part and it stripped back out within a week...
heat soak
After you turn the car off, things heat up...A LOT.
Wiring takes the hardest hit, as old wiring is sensative to the heat since heat causes resistance. If the wiring is already corroded, the heat causes enough resistance to cause issues.
That's assuming you're doing it on the car, which is a royal PITA and not worth it IMHO...
Easier on a bench.
FYI, do NOT use a digital multimeter to do it, as it doesn't react fast enough compared to an old dial style. I was having fits trying to get it right until I broke out my dad's...
If I remember right, those two areas you show in the part diagrams, or at least once of them is a spherical bearing from the factory and gives very little to start with (well, until they wear)
agreed
The fun thing about the godfather is you'd actually be able to put nice flush mount headlights in with it...
Still don't understand the whole hinge license plate hanger on JDM cars though...
If you can, look at what they recommend for the same engine around the world.
A good example is the RX8 and the engine failures associated with the 5w-20 (I think) that they put in it in the states to meat EPA mandated MPG ratings. Everywhere else in the world they recommend 5w-30.
