Broken valve? There are no bearings on the cams... and they wouldn't make much noise anyhow, they just spin, nothing like the rod that is moving up and down with the weight of piston, rod, wristpin, etc, not to mention the force of the combustion pounding on it.

I'd highly suggest getting another one of these from Toyota. It's not your average bolt. Use loktite on the new one. Do you have an aftermarket clutch, or is yours stock?

Aha! That will be power steering fluid. Check the level in your resevoir, and check the hose that runs from the resevoir down to the pump - that's the external belt powered device on the passenger side of the vehicle.

We have an unfair advantage over here - most of the manuals we use to work on our cars were written in Europe - all the Haynes manuals that I am aware of, and they call things by funny names, so you have to learn all the odd bits just to be able to understand the manuals! Spanners, boot...
