Confirmed! The woodpecker noise is the solenoid.
I can now finish re-assembling the dash and Grimreaper can sleep now! :icon_bigg
BTW: I smoked a DSM at lunch today...3 times!!! :biglaugh:
Steven...you da man! Thanks for the link and the insight! That's gotta be it because the car ran fine when I parked it to replace my Heater Core.
I do still have the dash mostly apart so I will disable the EBC just to confirm.
I will post my findings so we can all sleep at night. ;)...
Negative on an exhaust leak. I just retorqued the exhaust bolts and no exhaust leak is evident when rev'd in neutral.
My copilot confirmed that it is coming from behind the dash on the passenger side. That is the side that my vacum lines for my EBC are coming in on. Could one of those...
All bolts are spoken for; but, something may be loose. I rounded up a co-pilot to ride with me after work to see if we can pinpoint it.
I find it weird that it only happens under boost...
I was just acknowledging that mine uses a solenoid.
Could it be wastegate chatter then? Conceivable since boost isn't holding...?
Thanks Adam. I'll try that.
Hi all!
I have this woodpecker knocking type sound just as the car starts to boost then it goes away. (well it might not go away; but, it can no longer be heard because of exhaust and engine noise) It can be reproduced every time and the sound is identical every time. It is coming from the...
I found the problem. It was a connector that I missed. The connector was a white two prong that was just behind the left side of the cluster.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys! :D
I thought about that and I'm not that partial to the stock gauge; but, I just hope that it doesn't indicate a bigger problem. Like electrical or vacum!
I am just now finishing up my BHG, Blown Radiator (installed a Koyo), and Blown Heater Core. What a mess huh...?
Anyway, I'm just about done and I decided to fire her up and all of the gauges work fine except the boost gauge. It pegs as soon as I turn the key to the 'on' position.
My...
Ah... Now he posts his mods list! ;D
Yeah, get that gauge replaced so you'll know where your fp is at.
As stated above I'd check for boost leaks. You could have a pin hole or two in the IC or pipe. There's a DIY sticky somewhere that shows how to build a boost leak tester for like 8...
Don't be dissin the 7M!
8 times out of 10 a rod knock is due to lack of maintenance and care. My 87 developed a rod knock two weeks after I owned it. The knock wasn't there on my way to work one day; but, was there when I was coming back from lunch. I babied the car home, dropped the...
Why in the world do you have your fuel pressure set at 60!?!?!?
It's already been said. The car needs to be tuned! You don't have the necessary mods to SAFELY run more boost. Sure there's a little play room; but, only a LITTLE!
Save up some money and get the rest of the recipe for more...
Hey guys and gals!
I was just wondering of anyone has relocated their O2 Sensor Wiring from the stock location. I was considering routing it in a different direction to get it away from all the heat of it's current route.
The added length of wire wouldn't be enough to cause signal loss...
^^ Yeah, every BOV that I've had on my cars (aside from stock) has fluttered at throttle let off under low boost. I ran the Bosch 103 for a while too and experienced 'flutter'.
Based on "my" experience, I would say that it is normal.
