Sounds like the same problem - switches on the clutch / brake pedal out of adjustment. What happens is your CC computer thinks you are applying the brakes or depressing the clutch pedal, and won't allow the CC to engage.

Before you do anything, check the switches on the brake & clutch pedals. They tend to need re-adjustment after 20 odd years.

That's the bearing all right. I can't think of anything else that I'd absolutely replace when I have it out... I'd certainly check the entire release bearing assembly with a fine toothed comb, there's a fair number of bits in there that could cause issues if they are worn, and they don't cost...
