I am planning on the same build 500ish hp on pump gas. What made you stick with the stock pistons instead of going with stronger TT pistons? I've read 500hp is really pushing it on GE pistons.
My targa has been leaking again lately specifically in the corner behind me and the corner in front of the passenger, leaking on their lap. I noticed that in those areas I put silicone in between the drip rail and the targa and it seems to be blocking the water off at those points, so I am going...
It did feel good to remove the wiring harness and intake manifold. I just took off the exhaust cam cover to check it out and I was surprised but at the same time not surprised because I know the previous owner takes good care of his cars. I am not going to fully open her up yet because I need to...
haahha I plan to go with ProEFI standalone since my motor is VVTI and the tuner I plan to go with likes ProEFI. Debating on going for Carrillo H beams rods and CP pistons since that is what people use for 1000+hp builds.
I figured they were in great shape my friend takes excellent care of his cars he gave me this motor out of his 98 SC300 for free. I have been slowly tearing her down a little bit before exposing the internals since I am going to slowly gather parts, pistons, rods, ARP bolts and studs, etc. get...
Finally removed the intake manifold on the 2jz and wiring harness then i decided to check out the exhaust cams and from what I can tell it looks pretty damn clean.
Isn't the weak point in the R154 the thrust washer? I plan on rebuilding mine when I do my swap so it can handle the power. I don't like the idea of building a motor and everything else is still 20 years old.
Get the head surfaced and might as well get a valve job at that point and change your valve stem seals while you are at it too then get ARP head studs and a new gasket never have to worry about anything. Do it right the first time and enjoy the results for a lifetime.
I've read that ProEFI are better with VVTI motors but I also read that it depends on what the tuner likes to use as well. I plan on going ProEFI 128 for my 2jzge-T build because the tuner I am going with likes them and also because like I said ProEFI seems to be better with VVTI motors.
I don't really see the point in shooting for a top speed tune since how often are you going to be reaching top speed? I'd shoot for more acceleration and response but that is just me.
Finally mounted my 2jz on the engine stand, need to remove the intake manifold to help with balance a little bit but it's good. I used my old 7M head bolts and didn't need washers or anything just cleaned up the threads and fit perfectly.
from what i've read getting a 7M in that power range requires dead on tuning, so I would not risk it with a piggyback system you would be much better off with AEM or ProEFI anyway to make sure everything is in line.
Finally picked up my friend's 2jzge VVTI out of his 98 sc300, was not expecting to get the tranny as well but fuck it. I removed the exhaust to make some more space for cars in the garage.
EDIT: Can I use the bell housing on that transmission for my R154, so I'd just need a JZ flywheel?
