i hated the fold outs.. my bro wrecked my 83 with fold outs.. i got 1k from it (bought my supra) and swapped a 84 parts cars pop ups on.. was win win for me :)

i did this on my white 87.. omg what a pain in the ass.. white sucks! but look 5000x better.. It too me a good 3-4 hours of scrubing to get most of the crap off..
cams didn't lower it.. it might of stayed the same.. I ran 14 psi before the cams and it hit ~4200.. with the cams and 18 psi it hit ~ 4500-4600.. and pulled all the way to the limiter.. it was a fun ride..
you have quite a bit more mods so not quite an apples/apples compairison..
you need some cams to bring that thing alive! and fuel to up the boost.. that turbo is hardly working at 15psi

honestly.. for your car drew, I dont think a standalone is necessary. Emanage will work out fine with it. Unless looking to upgrade later (more power). Fwiw though, my cammed 1j idled like stock where as I drove a cammed 1j on the stock ecu it idled a little funny (idle would hunt sometimes) and...
