Well said ;). Don't risk pushing the envelope on the stock rods, etc. Think of those new rods (insert brand here) as cheap insurance as compared to another rebuild.

First, toss out the narrowband and replace with a wideband ;). It's not triggering any codes you say? Check your spark plugs for fouled out/toasted ones. Also check the spark plug wires for damage.
