I'll challenge that and say if you want that kind of power and you want a classy package, you can make a custom DDP work just fine. Of course the OP said he was trying for something loud and aggressive so maybe classy isnt the purpose.
Regardless, I dont know there are many pre-built systems...
Time to find a coolant system pressure tester. I bet you've got a hidden leak somewhere. I have a similar problem with my truck right now. I've got a leak somewhere, but I can't find anything. :(

I think the best and smartest approach is to buy a brand new mk4 slave from Toyota the week before you do your swap. You can try the mk3 one and if it works, simply return the mk4 one from Toyota. Even if you have to pay a 20% restock fee or something, you'll end up ahead because you'll be...
I love my mishimoto Rad. No modification was needed, but if you have old worn out radiator hoses, you'll probably have to swap them out for new ones with new clamps. My inlet/outlet were both 2mm smaller in diameter than my stock radiator.
I vote leak in cooling system. You can rent a cooling system pressure tester for free from most auto stores. I'll bet you hear a hissing sound from a coolant hose. Maybe in the back of the head. ;)
For future reference, I always replace the 90 degree hose, the clamps AND the union (the metal...
Don't buy it if you only have $400 to spend fixing it. For a proper bhg fix, plan on a minimum of $1000 in repairs.
Getting a non running Mk3 with that low a budget is asking for a sad ending. :(

Get new ones from Toyota. Small one is under $20 from Champion, big one is like $70.
Old ones fail often. Using junkyard parts is the problem. I went through a couple myself before just buying a new set. :)
Vis makes one too, but I think it's like ~$800. Carbon Creations is cheap. What I would like to know is if any of these carbon hoods use the stock latch. Hood pins are gay on anything short of a race car.
Which is exactly why Carbon Fiber should be painted. :) Not to mention, it makes it less...
TSRM is your friend. :)

I thought the ECU assumed cold when the sensor failed though. Glad I read this thread.
I'm actually laughing out loud at the thread comments here.
The size of the correct shim depends on the head, valve, bucket, and cam. If you change any ONE of those, the shims are not necessarily the right size anymore.
Take a look at this picture:
That doesn't even show a...
remanufactured = rebuilt = used = NOT new. There is literally no difference between "remanufactured" and "rebuilt". Same exact thing.
Given your low power goal a stock ct would be fine. You could go with a 54 trim CT maybe, but no need to go with anything more than that. Hell, a full turbo...
Snow tires: Get 205/55/16 snow tires on the stock wheels. You can get'em cheap and they'll work just fine. Mine drove like a tank.
Auto-up driver's window switch: Simply punch out the tab that keeps the switch from being pressed down all the way. Easiest to do if you remove the switch assy...
Thanks for all the responses guys, I appreciate it. I'm gathering more info and planning as we speak.
I'm also pursuing an engineering gig with Toyota [crossing fingers, jumping up and down in little hops] and will start to dedicate a serious amount of time to this if Toyota doesn't pan out...
Ding, ding, ding. Winner.
I've always been surprised how much an exhaust can sound like physical metal on metal contact. Actually feeling the exhaust leak is about as much proof as you can get.
Absolutely perfectly normal. Much higher would be abnormal. It's a low pressure system and the stock gauge has been known to read low anyways.

The partner thing does worry me, in principle at least. I thoroughly enjoy being solely responsible for my own success and failure, but when it's a side gig, the extra hand really comes in handy. I've done partner project cars before with another friend and it worked out rather well. Buying...
